Three Ghanaians nominated for 2025/26 SPORTY LALIGA MVP award

LaLiga has unveiled the 20 nominees for the fifth edition of the SPORTY LALIGA MVP award, which recognises the best Sub-Saharan African player in Spain’s top flight for the 2025/26 season.

Three Ghanaian players have made the prestigious shortlist, highlighting the continued impact of Ghanaian talent in LaLiga.

Ghana’s Iñaki Williams is the standout name among the nominees. The reigning champion won the award in both the 2023/24 and 2024/25 seasons and will be looking to make it a third consecutive triumph.

Also, Thomas Partey, currently at Villarreal CF, has also earned a nomination following a solid campaign in the heart of midfield.

Kwasi Sibo of Real Oviedo completes the Ghanaian trio on the list. The midfielder has been impressive in LaLiga this season after helping his side gain promotion.

The award continues to celebrate the growing influence of African players in Spanish football. Other notable nominees include Eric Bailly (Ivory Coast), Chidera Ejuke (Nigeria), Pape Gueye (Senegal), Djené Dakonam (Togo), Enzo Boyomo (Cameroon) and Akor Adams (Nigeria).

Voting is expected to open soon, with the winner set to be announced at the end of the season. Iñaki Williams remains the favourite to retain the crown, but Partey and Sibo will be hoping to challenge strongly and bring the award back to Ghana.
