There’s No Minister From Western North- MP Laments

The Member of Member of Parliament (MP) for Bodi Constituency, Hon Sampson Ahi, has raised concerns about the exclusion of natives from the Western North Region from the cabinet of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Prior to the President’s Ministerial reshuffling, he said the region had one representative; however, he was removed during the shake-up, rendering the region unrepresented in cabinet.

According to the member of the Minority side in parliament, the development has irritated the chiefs and people of the Western North Region.

“Now we have 16 regions in the country, they should look through the existing Ministers and the new ones and the deputy Ministers, there is none from the Western North Region. We had only one Minister. Even though we were not happy, we consoled ourselves with Dr Kwaku Afriyie as Minister for Environment and Science. {On Wednesday} he was sacked by the President so as a region, we were expecting that he would replace Dr Kwaku Afriyie but that didn’t happen. As we speak, nobody is representing Western North in cabinet nor within the deputy Ministers.”

He considers the development an oversight and has thus entreated the President for reconsideration.

“There are nine districts in the Western North Region and therefore it is strange to us that the President did not consider anybody from the Region to be part of his government. The chiefs and people are not happy at all. Some regions have six, seven and eight Ministers and there are some without even a deputy Minister.

“We believe this is an oversight and we are calling on the President to rectify the anomaly to do the right thing to make sure that the cabinet he is constituting reflects all the regions so that it will be fair to all of us. We in Western North Region contribute to development in this country.”

The Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation was affected by the President’s reshuffling sickle mid-week and was replaced with Hon Ophelia Mensah Hayford.
