The Power Outages Will Be Minimal; Say GRIDCo And ECG
The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have assured the public that the already announced power disruptions will be minimal.
The Ministry of Energy earlier today officially announced parts of the country will be experiencing intermittent power outages dubbed “dum sie sie” to wit, “shutdown for maintenance”.
This has been attributed to the shutdown of the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant by the Ghana Gas Company Limited to make way for a maintenance programme.
The maintenance programme which began on March 25 will last for 14 days and will ensure the reliability of the gas processing plant and transmission infrastructure after completion, the Ministry said in a statement dated March 29.
“The shutdown will affect gas supply to some power plants and will ultimately result in interruption of power supply to some consumers”, the Ministry said.
A joint press statement from the GRIDCo and ECG said the shutdown will result in a 150 megawatt power shortfall.
“In this regard, there will be a minimal interruption in power supply to some ECG customers”, the statement added.
Total supply to customers will resume on April 7 but an outage timetable will be released by the ECG on Friday.
In order to minimise the outages, the Ministry of Energy said, the government is in the process of procuring gas from other sources to complement the available domestic gas for power generation.
