The Last Independence Day Celebration at Ho Cost ¢15million- Ofosu Kwakye

The Minister of State for Government Communication, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, has justified the government’s decision to suspend the rotational hosting of the Independence Day Celebration across the country’s regional capitals.

According to him, it cannot be sustained at a critical time when the national budget is severely impacted due to economic difficulties as it imposes additional costs.

This policy was instituted by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. However, the Mahama government has suspended it, citing the cost involved.

Citing the last celebration in Ho in the Volta region in March 2024, Ofosu Kwakye said it cost the country ¢15 million.

“Every time that it has been sent to a different regional capital apart from Accra, we’ve had to bear such cost. In the spirit of cutting down on government expenditure on non-essential expenditure, President Mahama has instructed that this rotational policy be suspended.”
