Tema and Takoradi Ports to Operate 24/7 Soon- Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to declare a round-the-clock operation at the Tema and Takoradi Ports.

Speaking at the 2025 Horticulture Expo on June 11, he said it was part of an extensive plan to unlock Ghana’s productive potential across all sectors.

According to him, the move will require building the necessary infrastructure, improving energy supply, enhancing security, strengthening transport networks, and developing digital platforms to enable continuous agricultural and industrial activities.

“I am pleased to inform you that the Ministry of Trade and Agriculture Business and Industry, together with the Ministry of Transport, is working in collaboration with the Ghana Revenue Authority, the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, the Ghana Shippers’ Council, and other key stakeholders to soon declare the Tema and Takoradi ports as 24-hour operational ports.”

He intimated that the move would enhance Ghana’s trade and logistics capacity by enabling continuous port operations, minimising delays, and attracting increased foreign investment.

President Mahama believes this will revitalize export-led sectors and ensure Ghana remains competitive in regional and global markets.

Meanwhile, he said the broader the 24-hour economy initiative will be operational on July 1.
