Techiman Market Consumed by Flames
The Techiman market in the Bono East Region went up in flames over the weekend, destroying numerous structures, containers and their content.
The fire broke out around 10 pm on Sunday, January 12, 2025.
It was successfully contained from spreading to 700 structures in the market by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) at 11:16 PM.
A statement by the Service confirmed the fire was brought under control at 12:13 AM, and fully extinguished at 4:12 AM on Monday, January 13, 2025, using six (6) fire appliances.
It noted that despite the extensive damage caused, no casualties were recorded.
“Despite challenges such as late reporting of the fire, poor access, and interference from bystanders, over 65 firefighters were mobilized to the scene to salvage nearby structures numbering over 700 and prevented further spread.”
Meanwhile, an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the cause of the fire.
This is the third market to get engulfed by fire this year in the country.
The first was the devastating Kantamanto Market fire which happened on January 2. It was followed by another fire at the wood market at Kwadaso two days later.
