Teachers Bare Teeth at Govt over Deferred Allowances Payment

Ghanaian teachers have bared their teeth at the government after it defaulted and deferred the payment of two of their allowances this month.

In a joint statement, Teacher Unions, including GNAT, NAGRAT and PRETAG, expressed disappointment in the government.

“We hereby register our strongest displeasure with the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance, the Ghana Education Service, Fair Wages and Salaries Commission and the Controller and Accountant General, Department.”

They encouraged the government to promptly address the challenges to avoid disrupting the labour front.

“We hope that these issues will be promptly addressed so as not to disturb the labour front.”

In a statement, the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department announced its inability to pay the CPDA and CDISA to teaching and non-teaching staff this month.

It stated that the allowances could not be processed due to a technical issue encountered during the final payroll run.

It further explained that the decision to defer the payment was to avoid any delay in the payment of the November salary.

“To avoid any further delay in the payment of November 2025 salaries for all Government of Ghana workers, the processing of these allowances was paused.”
