NPP Distances Itself From “Plot To Remove IGP”
The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has distanced itself from the alleged plot to depose Dr George Akufo Dampare as Ghana’s 23rd Inspector General of Police (IGP).
A tweet by the Director of Communication of the NPP, Richard Ahiagbah, said the party had nothing to do with the “leaked audio”.
“The Viral audio tape said to be the voices of some police officers allegedly plotting the removal of the IGP, has nothing to do with the NPP.”
He added that the NPP believes it will win the 2024 general elections based on its message and performance as has always.
“The NPP has always won elections on the strength of its message and records; we are confident about winning the 2024 general elections based on our performance.”

Background
An audio in the public domain captures an interaction between a Police Commissioner who describes himself as Mensa and another who says he is a former Northern regional chairman of the NPP, plotting the removal of the IGP.
The duo fears that the NPP will not be able to cheat in the 2024 elections to break the eight as a result of the strictness of the IGP.
“This IGP won’t help us. He won’t, he wants everything to be done fairly and we don’t win elections that way. If we don’t remove him we can’t break the 8, in politics we need machinations and this IGP won’t allow that,” the Police Commissioner is quoted as saying.
“The President is not listening, I have been telling him. Even if they don’t want to give me the job, they should give it to another person but they don’t want to listen”, he added.
