Being Part of Ghana Doesn’t Diminish Asante In Any Way- Asantehene

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has stated that the cultural identity and customs that define the Kingdom remain supreme and relevant even as it identifies as part of modern-day Ghana.
According to the Occupant of the Gold Stool, being part of Ghana doesn’t diminish Asante in any way.
This, His Majesty said, is evident in an incident that transpired when he detoured at Terchire on his way to Bechem for the burial of Daasebre Amankona Diawuo II in November 2023.
“The political administration of the country resulted in your current outlook, however, Tanoso is mine. What happened on my way to Berekum when I made a stop at Terchire? He {the deity} showed up. When I got there, I was told he {the deity} had not shown up for many years but when I got there, he {the deity} showed up.
“That tells you that something resides there. It is Ghana but when he {the deity} sensed my presence, he {the deity} manifested himself. That is a testament to the fact that Asante is still alive and steadfast. Nothing will diminish. If he hadn’t shown up, Asante’s spirit would have been considered lost, but he made an appearance.”
Otumfuo made these remarks at the Kumasi Traditional Council meeting on July 14, 2025, before permitting the oath of allegiance of the chief of Bechem-Tanoso by Nana Oteng Baffour Akomea.
