A/R: Kotokuom Bridge to Close for Repairs- Regional Minister

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Frank Amoakohene, has announced the closure of the bridge over the Offin River at Kotokuom in the Atwima Mponua District.
The closure is to allow for repairs on the bridge, which has been severely damaged in parts by the recent runoff.
According to the Minister, the Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwame Governs Agbodza, will inspect the bridge as part of his scheduled visit to the Region.
He noted that the Minister was coming in with Emergency Technicians to work on the bridge.
“Yesterday, our attention was drawn to concerns about a damaged bridge over the Offin River at Kotokuom in the Atwima Mponua District. I have reached out to the Roads Minister. Tomorrow {Monday, March 3, 2025} the Minister will be here and we will go to Kotokuom to inspect and assess the bridge. After that, we will have to close the bridge.”
This means motorists will have to use alternative routes. Residents will now use the Wiawso-Domeabra-Kumsu-Mankranso-Abuakwa route, he said.
The Regional Minister made this known on March 2, 2025, when he led the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC), some government officials and some regional executives of the governing National Democratic Congress to join the second Akwasidae Festival of the year.
He used the occasion to seek the permission of the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to close down the bridge.
“We implore Otumfuo to permit the closure of the bridge for a while. Emergency Technicians are being brought in to construct the Road within the shortest possible time.”
Update
Expressing his gratitude to the Monarch for his directions which took centre stage in his approval as the Regional Minister, he chronicled some of the work he has undertaken in the past month.
“I brought in the Defence Minister. We went to inspect the Afari Hospital and he promised it would be completed and commissioned by September. We also brought in the Interior and Lands Minister. We have started taking action on illegal mining. One forest reserve at Offin Shelter Belt has been retaken and reclamation is in the offing. Otumfuo also advised that we worked on unemployment. We have set up a desk at RCC to do that.
“The Sports Minister has also been here, we talked about developments with Kotoko. The Local Government Minister has also been here and Otumfuo gave us some directions on the Kejetia and Krofrom markets. Your grandson (the Minister) has given assurances of commitment to complete them as well as all other projects under the local government.”
He noted that the Health Minister will soon have his turn in the Region to inspect Sewua and other stalled health facilities.
