Asantehene Observes Akwasidae Festival

The Manhyia Palace was the right place to be on Sunday as Asanteman held the highly revered Akwasidae festival.

It was the first of eight Akwasidae festivals this year and attracted multitudes from across the country and beyond to the Palace to celebrate with Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The event saw cultural and traditional displays as usual as the King took his seat among the traditional rulers and royals to receive his guests on January 7, 2024.

Among the guests were the Ashanti Regional Minister Hon Simon Osei Mensah, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) led by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, the Management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) led by Vice Chancellor Prof Akosua Dickson and a delegation from Kano State in Nigeria.

Also present were the Ghana Bar Association led by President Yaw Boafo, Deputy High Commissioner of Ghana to India, H.E Louis Obeng, international evangelist Bishop Akwasi Adu Amankwaah, Chief Marketing Officer at Netflix Bozoma Saint John, Zongo Nkosuohene Alhaji Abdullai Ali Barry, Stanbic Bank led by Chief Executive Officer Kwamina Asomaning, Sparkle Women’s Club and Asanteman Club.

GBA
The President of the GBA, Lawyer Yaw Boafo sought permission from the King to hold their annual Conference in the Palace this year and served their humble invitation to him.

He told Otumfuo that a new President would be elected during the conference to replace him.

Training
Asanteman Nkosuohene Nana Osei Kame Kyeretwie and Zongo Nkosuohene together with Ghana’s Ambassador to Brazil, H. E. Abena Busia, informed Otumfuo about plans to offer training to the youth of Asanteman.

According to them, some youth will be sponsored to Brazil to be offered training in various vocations. This is aimed at encouraging entrepreneurship to reduce the unemployment rate in the kingdom.

Bishop Amankwa
Bishop Kwasi Amankwa presented some awards he had received to Otumfuo on Sunday and used the avenue to seek his blessings.

The second of the year will be celebrated on February 18.
