Mr Ibu Loses One Leg

Popular comic actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu has been rendered disabled following the amputation of one of his legs in a medical process.

The Nigerian earlier sought financial support in catering for his medical bills and further treatment of an undisclosed illness last month.

The plea was intended to solicit funds and prayers to save him from leg amputation as he said, “Just imagine, if they amputate my leg, where do I go from here? Please pray for me, seek God Almighty’s intervention, and I don’t want to lose my legs”.

However, in a statement on November 6, the 62-year-old’s family disclosed one of his legs had been severed after “seven successful” surgeries, it said.

“As of 1 pm noon today {Monday, Nov 6}, Daddy has gone through 7 successful surgeries but to keep him alive and increase his chances of recovery one of his legs had to be amputated.”

Describing the amputation as a difficult decision, it noted that it was necessary for the actor’s survival.

“This development has been hard on us all but we’ve had to accept it as Daddy’s new reality to keep him alive.”

The family also appreciated the generosity of Nigerians.

“We want to appreciate everyone that has come through for our dad, saying we are grateful is an understatement and only the good Lord can thank you all enough for every help you’ve rendered.”

The deteriorating health condition of the actor was made public a day after celebrating his 62nd birthday in a hospital.

On October 18, the actor and his family took to social media to disclose the severity of his ailment after spending two weeks in a health facility.

“As I speak to you, I am still lying in the hospital; the medical director of this hospital has suggested that, if his new approach doesn’t work, the best solution would be to amputate my leg. Just imagine, if they amputate my leg, where do I go from here? Please pray for me, seek God Almighty’s intervention, and I don’t want to lose my legs.”
