NPP Orders Party Flags To Fly At Half-Mast In Honour Of Late Hon Basoah

“Grief-stricken” New Patriotic Party (NPP) has directed its party flags to fly at half-mast following the death of Member of Parliament for Kumawu Constituency, Philip Basoah.

The lawmaker died on Tuesday, March 28 after an illness.

He died at 54 years.

In a press statement, the NPP who lost a former Old Tafo Constituency, Dr Anthony Osei Akoto, a few days ago said it was “grief-stricken”.

“He was a gentle and astute politician whose contribution to the party, constituents and the development of Ghana through his works in Parliament cannot be overemphasised.”

In honouring his memory, the party has ordered all flags across the country to fly at half-mast for seven days.

A similar order was given on March 21 when the Dr Osei Akoto died.

Hon Basoah first joined the 7th Parliament in January 2017, retained his seat in the 2020 General elections and remained a legislator until his death.

During his tenure in Parliament, he served as the Chairman of the Employment, Social Welfare and State Enterprises Committee; a member of the Lands and Forestry Committee; and a member of the Selection Committee.

He worked as the Projects Coordinator of the Ghana Education Service (GES) in the Ashanti Region and as District Chief Executive at the Ministry of Local Government for the Sekyere East District from June 2005 to January 2009.

He held a Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management.
