Kotoko Invite Hearts to Join Campaign Against Hooliganism

Asante Kotoko SC have called on all other clubs particularly their archrivals, Hearts of Oak to join their solemn campaign against violence and hooliganism in the country’s league and all other football competitions.

The Porcupines are seeking the collaboration of all other top-tier clubs to end the vicious cycle which claimed the life of their supporter over the weekend.

This was contained in a statement issued on February 4, 2025, by Kotoko relaying their resolve to honour an invitation by the FA over the killing.

“We will honour this invitation and lead the charge to ensure that this painful moment serves as a turning point for Ghanaian football, it is time to end the cycle of violence, hooliganism, and lawlessness that threatens the integrity of our game.

“We call on all clubs to support this cause, especially our greatest rivals on the pitch, Accra Hearts of Oak, because this is bigger than.”

Ardent Asante Kotoko fan, Frimpong Yaw Francis, popularly known as Nana Pooley, was stabbed to death following the 1-0 defeat to Nsoatreman FC.

This followed a melee that marred the game at Nana Koramansah Park at Nsoatre in the Bono Region on February 2, 2025.

He died at a hospital while receiving treatment, Kotoko confirmed in a statement.

Meanwhile, the Porcupines alongside four players have been charged for failing to control players and anti-footballing activities respectively during the game.

Kotoko have since suspended all footballing activities until further notice.
