Kuntenase Onwe: Avoid Violence for Peace to Reign – Asantehene to Feuding Parties

The Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has warned feuding factions in the Kuntenase Onwe dispute against actions that could escalate tensions in the town.

Three different factions are laying claim to the stool in the community.

Case
The embattled traditional leader alleges that the stool was created for a wife of an Asantehene, but this is fiercely contested by Opanin Marfo, the Aduana Family Head, who claims the stool belongs to the Aduana Clan.

On the other hand, Otumfuo Kyeame Nana Darko Mprah asserts that the community was entrusted to him and has, therefore, enstooled Opanin Akwasi Boateng as the Dikro to oversee it on his behalf.

The case was called before the Kumasi Traditional Council on March 13, 2025, with Otumfuo presiding.

However, Obaapanin Darkowaa Ampem informed the King that the embattled Dikro could not appear before the Council due to illness.

In response, the Asantehene directed her to inform the elders of the community to designate someone to represent the chief in the arbitration process.

Peace
His Majesty, on that note, called for peace in the community, cautioning all factions to refrain from any form of misconduct that could lead to violence.

“I want peace to reign there. The Registrar must find a suitable time for the case. Let no one take the law into their own hands. Everything must cease until a verdict is passed.”

Otumfuo assured them that the truth would ultimately prevail but warned against accepting false orders purportedly issued in his name.

“This matter will be settled openly, in the presence of everyone. Do not accept any instructions claimed to be from me—they are all false.”
