Always Check Expiry- FDA Urges Consumers and Sellers

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has encouraged sellers and consumers alike to look out for the expiry date of all products they purchase.

This comes after the Authority, through a market surveillance in Tema, seized over 40 cartons of expired drinks.

These products were found on the shelves of God’s My Strength wholesale and retail shop.

In a Facebook post, the Authority stated that consumer protection is a shared responsibility.

“But the bigger question remains: if we, as Ghanaians, do not take responsibility for our own safety, what will be our fate? Consumer protection is a shared duty, and we all have a role to play in safeguarding our health.”

In addition to the expiry date, it said elements that must be looked out for include a valid FDA registration number and outlook of containers.

“Whether you’re a seller or a buyer, always ensure that you check the expiry or best before date, look for a valid FDA registration number, and confirm that the product is not rusted, dented, or bloated before purchasing.”
