Stonebwoy Cites Global Recognition For Def Jam Signing

Ghanaian dancehall artiste Stonebwoy has pointed to international recognition as reason for joining the Universal Music Group, parent company of international record label Def Jam.

He holds that such collaborations push crafts to the ends of the world.

“Just like everybody’s work is going far if we look at our brothers from Nigeria and the global scene we can see that people are progressing with their works. So we also ought to try our best so that we can move forward and so if someone says Stonebwoy was okay I thank God for that,” he is quoted as saying during an interview.

“Maybe you wish to be like me and me too I wish to be like somebody and maybe the level I’ve gotten to is something you adore but I also want to do more. In your estimation you think Stonebwoy is okay so why sign on Def Jam but I also see myself that where I’ve gotten to isn’t enough so I need to join forces with them and progress with my craft,” he continued.

Universal Music Group (UMG) label divisions Def Jam Recordings, 0207 Def Jam, and Def Jam Africa in May 2022 announced the signing of Stonebwoy.

The signing, it is understood, would create avenues for the Ghanaian artiste to showcase his craft across Africa, the US and the United Kingdom.

“This partnership between labels showcases UMG’s global commitment to introducing Stonebwoy’s eclectic sound and Ghanaian music culture to new audiences around the world,” the company said at the time in a statement.
