Bodies of Seven Drowned Lawra SHS Students Retrieved

According to the Ministry of Education, the bodies of the seven students of Lawra Senior High School (SHS) who drowned on Saturday morning have been retrieved from the Volta River.
The affected students included two boys and five girls.
They were among ten students from the school’s cadet corps who reportedly attempted to cross the Black Volta River near Dikpe into Burkina Faso during a routine morning jogging exercise, and their canoe capsized midway through the journey.
In a statement, the Deputy Minister for Education, Clement Apaak, condoled with the bereaved families.
“We share in the grief of the affected families and the entire school community. Our thoughts and prayers are with them in this extremely difficult time.”
He further instructed the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to convene an urgent meeting with the Regional and District Directors of Education and the Headmaster of the school and to report back urgently.
It also assured of the Ministry’s commitment to ensure the safety and security of students.
