Ashanti Kusasi Chief Shot Dead
The Kusasi Chief of the Ashanti Region and Chief of the Kadi Divisional Area in Binduri, Abdul-Malik Azenbe, has been shot dead by unknown assailants.
The heinous crime was committed at F-Line at Asawase in Kumasi around 9 pm when the leader was seated at his usual spot alongside other residents, eyewitnesses say.
He sustained multiple gun wounds and succumbed after being transferred from the Manhyia District Hospital to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
A relative told Opemsuo Radio’s George Addo that the deceased was the target of a planned assassination.
“Around 9:30, we heard a gunshot. We thought it was the police who were undertaking their usual operation, but we rushed to the scene when the gunshots of an AK-47 persisted. When we got to the scene, the assassins were leaving on a motorbike.”
“He was taken to Manhyia Hospital, where his hand was bandaged and referred to Komfo Anokye. On our way, we realised he had gunshot wounds in his head and other parts of his body. He died at Komfo Anokye…He was a target because the deceased was seated with other people, but he was the only one who was shot.”
Crime scene experts are currently at the scene, mobilising evidence to arrest the suspects.
