Otumfuo is a Model of Today’s Traditional Leader- Chieftaincy Minister
The Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Stephen Asamoah Boateng has hailed the leadership style of the 16th King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as exemplary and contemporary.
Speaking at the Ahoho Durbar at the Manhyia Palace as part of activities to mark the Silver Jubilee of the Monarch, the Minister congratulated His Majesty on his “monumental milestone” in kingship and leadership.
He acknowledged the impact and influence of His Majesty in the past 25 years of his reign as he stated, “This goes without saying that His Royal Majesty has become a model of today’s traditional leader committed to peace, development and nation-building.”
“Today, we gather in honour of one whose influence transcends politics, cultural, and ethnic boundaries. He is truly a beacon of peace and hope for this country… You have established a concept of kingship that is more suited to the spirit of the new and changed conditions and challenges of today.”
He noted that the leadership of His Majesty stands out and defies all odds- which the government is proud of.
“At a time when people are calling for the abolishment of the Chieftaincy Institution that has been bedevilled by conflicts in recent years, we are on the contrary proud and honoured to associate ourselves with Otumfuo, whose efforts in education, health, poverty, conflict resolution and capacity building for traditional leaders, are remarkable.”
As part of his Silver Jubilee Celebrations, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II hosted 43 ethnic groups domiciled on his land at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Wednesday, April 24, 2024.
It was an opportunity for the various groups to exhibit their tradition and culture before the King as well as pay homage to him on the “Ahoho Da”.
It was also an affirmation of the bond and friendship between Asanteman and these groups.
Present at the event were dignitaries including Ogyeahohoo Yaw Gyebi, the President of the National House of Chiefs and Paramount Chief of Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Area; Naa Puowele Karbo III, the Vice President of the National House of Chiefs and the Paramount Chief of the Lawra Traditional Area in the Upper West Region; and the Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Stephen Asamoah Boateng.
