Bawku Conflict: Asantehene’s Intervention Offers a Renewed Sense of Hope- Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama says the intervention of the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, in the resolution of the protracted Bawku Conflict, reinforces optimism of perpetual peace sooner than later.
In his speech at the Jubilee House on June 2, 2025, the President of Ghana was thankful to the Monarch for stepping in to mediate.
He admitted that the issue at hand was challenging.
“Your Majesty’s ongoing efforts to mediate the Bawku conflict though challenging, offer a renewed sense of hope through quiet diplomacy, cultural sensitivity and unwavering resolve, you are helping to pave the way towards enduring peace in one of the most fragile areas of our republic.”
However, he expressed confidence in His Majesty’s approach to conflict resolution.
“I wish you well in this endeavour and we all have confidence that lasting peace will come to Bawku.”
President Mahama highlighted the resolution of the Dagbon conflict as one of Otumfuo’s greatest national contributions.
“Today the Kingdom of Dagbon stands united and strong thanks to your tireless commitment and unifying spirit.”
The President deems these contributions not only as acts of service but acts of nation building.
“They reflect your deep understanding that Ghana’s progress depends on our ability to live together in unity, mutual respect and justice.”
