Our Past Presidents Have Been the Problem, Not the Presidency- Kwabena Agyepong

Ing Kwabena Agyei Agyapong says he disagrees with assertions that much power is vested in the presidency by the constitution.

Rather, the aspiring Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) finds all occupants of the position to be problematic.

“I’m not one who believes the President is too powerful. I think there are issues with those who have occupied the office. The personalities,” he said in an interview on Opemsuo radio.

In his estimation, the laws of the country which proclaim the authority of the President are “good enough”.

He made this assertion while expressing his disapproval of how successive governments dismantle sensitive state institutions and their heads upon taking power.

“We have to stop dismantling every state institution when the government changes. I was surprised to see John Mahama do the same because he has been a Deputy Minister, Minister,  Vice President and President for two terms, and he went on to wipe out the leadership of the army. Even if you want to take out the Chief of Defence staff, I can understand that, but someone from the next line must succeed.”
