Ejisu By-Election: EC Withdraws 2 Staff Over White Envelope Video

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has withdrawn two of its personnel stationed at one of the polling stations in the Ejisu Constituency in the Ashanti Region in the ongoing by-election.

In a video captured of the two which has since gone viral, a man advanced towards their table, placed a white envelope onto the table as he spoke to them and left.

The video which has since generated concerns over the integrity of the polls has also received the attention of the EC.

According to the EC, the said officials are temporary personnel stationed at the Fumesua Pentecost Church Polling Station with Polling Station Code F311503.

“The video shows a gentleman approaching the table and dropping an envelope on the table manned by the Presiding Officer and Ballot Issuer. The Electoral Commission has taken immediate steps and has withdrawn the two (2) temporary staff while investigations take place,” it said in a statement.

Reiterating its highest regard for the principles and values of integrity, truth and transparency, the Commission stated that it will not countenance acts which cast a slur on the integrity of the institution and will not hesitate to sanction its officials who violate its laws.
