Bawku Conflict: GES Explores Special WASSCE Arrangements For Students From Closed Schools

The Ghana Education Service (GES) says it is taking urgent steps to ensure final year students from the three closed schools affected by the Bawku Conflict are able to sit for the upcoming WASSCE.

The Service intends to offer safe and fair conditions for the students.

In a statement, it said, “Special examination arrangements and secure centres are currently under consideration.”

Bawku SHS, Nalerigu SHS, and Zuarung SHS have been closed as a temporary measure to ensure the safety of life and property after gun attacks in the three schools, resulting in the tragic loss of student lives, injuries, and significant damage to school property between 20th and 26th July 2025.

This, it said, had severely disrupted academic activities and caused deep distress among students, families, and school staff.

Meanwhile, within the closure period, the GES said it will be exploring all viable learning avenues to ensure continuity of lessons for SHS 1 and 2 students.

“Further details on these interventions will be communicated in due course. In addition, counselling services are being strengthened for both students and staff to help them manage the trauma.”

It used the opportunity to thank the government, through the Ministry of Interior, for swiftly evacuating the students safely off campus.

“We will continue to work closely with the security agencies to enhance safety on school campuses and to protect both students and personnel.”
