Only You Can Hinder Your Dreams; Lady Julia to Girls
The wife of the Asantehene has provoked young girls to be intentional and pursue their goals in life.
In a closing remark at the 2025 Mentorship Masterclass programme on March 7, 2025, Lady Julia Osei Tutu noted the only one with the ability to prevent the goals of a young girl from coming to fruition is herself.
“I hope our young ladies will not end the conversation here. Please carry it back to your schools with you, have discussions and support yourselves. From what we learned today, I think that the only person preventing us from reaching our maximum potential is ourselves.
“The only person who can prevent you from reaching your goals is you. So let’s be intentional about how we go about our lives and put the work in as Prof said, if we sit on TikTok half the day, and we don’t put the work in, don’t expect that somebody who learnt and puts in all that was needed got.”
Meanwhile, Her Royal Highness thanked the speakers for their insightful lecture.
“I want to thank our panellists for this exciting talk today. It’s been excellent.”
The annual mentorship programme for girls was this year held at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi with speakers including Nana Akosua Akyaa II, the Queen of Aninkroma, Prof Mrs Mercy Badu, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Chemistry at KNUST, Nana Prof Ekua Suapim Nyaniba I, Queen of Dehia in Cape Coast and Mrs Appiah Wife Adofo, the Country Director of World University Service of Canada.
Participating schools included Bosomtwe SHS, Our Lady of Change, KNUST SHS, Kumasi Technical Institute, Kumasi Wesley Girls SHS, Prince of Peace Girls’ SHS, Yaa Asantewaa SHS, St Monica’s SHS, Adventist Girls’ SHS, Afia Kobi SHS, TI Ahmadiyya SHS and Kumasi Girls’ SHS.
