A/R: Regional Minister Inaugurates Committee to Revive, Strengthen Kumawood

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon Frank Amoakohene, has unveiled a committee to revive and strengthen the movie industry known as the Kumawood and creative arts which is now in comatose.

The Committee headed by Bishop Ofori-Adu has renowned actress Mercy Asiedu and Bill Asamoah as members.

The aim is to drive the growth and transformation of Ghana’s film and creative arts sector.

The committee has been tasked with assessing the current state of the industry and identifying key challenges; developing policies to attract investment and ensure sustainable growth; and exploring strategies to promote Ghanaian films both locally and internationally.

It also has the responsibility of strengthening film infrastructure by improving production facilities and training opportunities; enhancing film festivals and cultural showcases to celebrate Ghanaian storytelling and creativity; and fostering collaboration between stakeholders to create more opportunities for filmmakers, actors, and creatives.

The Minister challenged the committee members to carry out their mandate with dedication, commitment, and a strong sense of unity to ensure that Kumawood and the entire creative industry reach new heights.

“Together, we will build a globally competitive film industry that tells the rich stories of Asanteman and Ghana.”
