MTN FA Cup: GFA Explains Motive For Last-minute Referee Change

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) says the change in centre referee at the eleventh hour of the MTN FA Cup final between Asante Kotoko SC and Golden Kick SC was motivated by an injury.
Serlom Yao Bless was earlier advertised to be in charge of the centre however, Abdul Latif Adaari, the fourth referee, took over when the game began.
In a statement, the FA explained that Bless twisted his ankle minutes before the game.
“The decision was in line with standard practice, where the fourth referee assumes the role of centre referee in case of injury or illness to the main referee.”
According to the Association, the replacement was necessitated by the circumstances and not due to any conspiracy theories circulating in the public domain.
Concerns about the change in the referee followed the stoppage-time penalty awarded to Kotoko which has since generated controversies.
The game ended 2-1 in favour of the Porcupines as they lifted their 10th FA trophy.
