IGP Orders Release of Kwahuhemaa, Investigates Operations Leading to Arrest

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Christian Yohuno, has ordered the immediate release of the Queen of Kwahu Traditional Council, Nana Adwoa Gyemfua.
She was taken away on the dawn of November 17, 2025, by armed men reportedly dressed in police uniforms and claiming to be officers from National Security.
In a statement, the Ghana Police Service said a directive had been given for her immediate release while an investigation had commenced into the circumstances surrounding her arrest.
“The Inspector-General of Police has directed the release of the Queen Mother of Kwahu, following an operation by some officers this morning.”
“The IGP has further directed the Police Professional Standards Bureau to conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the operation and any officers found culpable will be sanctioned.”
Meanwhile, it reported that security had been intensified in and around Kwahu to ensure the security and safety of all persons.
