Join Any of the 24 Driver Unions or You Can’t Operate a Trotro – Kumasi Mayor

The Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Richard Ofori Agyeman, popularly known as King Zuba, has directed commercial drivers to register with any of the 24 recognised driver unions within the metropolis.
According to him, this is a prerequisite for all commercial drivers in order to instil sanity in the city.
During an engagement with leaders of driver unions across the metropolis on May 28, he emphasized that this directive must be complied with immediately.
“All drivers should join any of the 24 driver unions today. If you are not a member of any of the recognised unions, you can’t operate at any unauthorised station,” he stated.
He added that union members will be issued unique identification to make them easily recognisable.
He believes this measure will go a long way toward addressing the use of unauthorised spaces within the Central Business District.
It was also announced at the press conference that a framework has been developed to address concerns regarding short-distance fares, which have become a major issue for passengers.
“We have documented an arrangement to deal with concerns about short distances and bloated fees by commercial drivers,” he said.
The framework will be submitted to the General Assembly. Once approved, it will be implemented with the assistance of the police.
