Paa Kwesi Nduom Criticises Guinness Ghana Acquisition By Castel Group

The founder of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, has criticized the 80.4% acquisition of majority stakes in Guinness Ghana by Castel Group as a failure of Ghanaian entrepreneurship.

According to him, it reflects the failure of the state to safeguard the interests of citizens.

He took to Facebook on Monday to vent his dissatisfaction about the move.

“This for me is a failure of Ghanaian entrepreneurship and the inability of our state to protect and promote our interest.  And no one should dare bring in politics.

“When governments over the years were collapsing Ghanaian enterprises, many of you were silent and others even cheered them on.”

Castel Group has completed the acquisition of Diageo’s 80.4 per cent stake in the company at a fee of US$81 million.

Under the agreement, Castel now assumes operational leadership of Guinness Ghana, leveraging its extensive distribution network and regional expertise.

However, Diageo retains ownership of key brands such as Guinness, Malta Guinness, Orijin, Smirnoff Ice, and Alvaro.

These will continue to be brewed and distributed in Ghana under a long-term licensing and royalty arrangement with Castel.
