Police Investigate Alleged NPP Supporters Assault on Journalist at EOCO Office

The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into an alleged assault by some supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on a Multimedia journalist two days ago.
The journalist appeared in a live broadcast slapped at the back of his head and hit with a rubber band.
The alleged assault happened on May 27 at the premises of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) as Latif Iddrisu was taking coverage of the arrest of the Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman of the NPP, Mr Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi.
A statement issued by the police on May 28 said it was reviewing all available evidence, including video recordings and eyewitness testimonies, to establish the facts of the case and identify any individuals responsible.
It added, “The Ghana Police Service reaffirms its commitment to upholding the rights of all individuals, including members of the media, and ensuring that the rule of law is maintained throughout our operations.”
