Ato Forson Elected ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development Chairman

Ghana’s Minister for Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson, has secured the mandate to chair the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID).

He was elected in absentia during its 23rd Annual General Meeting held in Banjul in Gambia and succeeds Hon. Seedy Keita.

In a statement, he expressed his appreciation to the Board for the confidence reposed in him.

“I express my heartfelt appreciation to my esteemed colleagues on the Board for the confidence reposed in me. This appointment is a significant responsibility—one I embrace with humility and determination.”

He continued, “As Chairman, I look forward to working closely with all stakeholders to chart a path of resilience, innovation, and inclusive growth for our sub-region.”
He intends to strengthen Resource Mobilization to meet the development aspirations of member states; improve Capital Recovery by enhancing asset management and operational efficiency; facilitate Non-Regional Membership to diversify our partnerships and investment base; and position EBID as West Africa’s Premier Development Finance Institution.

According to him, these priorities reflect the Commission’s collective ambition to build a more integrated and prosperous West Africa.

“While our region faces complex challenges, these challenges present us with the opportunity to think boldly and act decisively.”
