Akufo-Addo Launches ‘Ghana Smart Schools Project’ On Monday

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is expected to launch the ‘Ghana Smart Schools Project’, an innovation to eradicate barriers in virtual education in the country’s education system.

The launch will take place on Monday, March 25, 2024.

The initiative is envisioned to bolster Senior High School Education by providing Teaching and Learning Management Systems, Digital Learning Content, and Electronic Devices to all Senior High/TVET Schools nationwide.

“The Ghana Smart Schools Project is in fulfilment of the Education for Sustainable Development Agenda, which is considered a key driver for rapid socio-economic transformation,” the Ministry of Education said in a statement.

It also noted that it aligns with the Ministry’s digitalization agenda for pre-tertiary education and supports the government’s goal of leveraging technological advancements to prepare Ghanaian students for the fourth industrial revolution.

The Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, made mention of this project in 2022 while commissioning five ultramodern studios at the Centre for National Distance Learning and Open Schooling (CENDLOS).

“We want to create smart schools that can compete with the rest of the world. Some of the schools we are operating here have more equipment than many of the schools that are run in the US.

“We are ahead of the curve because of how intentional we are about how our schools are opened. So what CENDLOS is going to do is to power the schools with tools and content. CENDLOS is the engine for our smart schools,” he is quoted to have said by CNR.
