Veep Mourns 15 Dead in Boat Accident on Volta Lake

Vice President Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has extended condolences to the bereaved family of 15 victims of a boat accident on the Volta Lake.
In a statement, she affirmed the government’s solidarity.
“On behalf of the Government of Ghana, I extend heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the affected community, and all who have been impacted by this tragedy. We stand with you in this moment of grief.”
According to the Ghana Maritime Authority, 15 people died in the accident after their overloaded boat capsized on Saturday, October 11.
While 11 were children aged 2 to 14 years, four were confirmed to be adults in the accident that happened near Kete Krachi.
The GMA has since constituted a specialised team, including Maritime Inspectors and the Navy Task Force, to establish the cause and hold all responsible parties fully accountable.
It is also preparing to set up what it calls a casualty Investigations Committee with the Ministry of Transport to ensure urgent policy changes, as well as launching a sustained lakeside safety enforcement operation to clamp down on overloaded boats and operators violating safety laws.
