IMANI Ghana Won’t show Up For Mahama-CSOs Galamsey Engagement

IMANI Ghana will not be represented at tomorrow’s Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) engagement on illegal mining with President John Dramani Mahama.
This was confirmed by the Senior Vice President and Policy Analyst of Imani Ghana, Kofi Bentil.
“To those asking me and sending issues to raise at the CSO meeting on Galamsey. I am not attending.”
As justification, he said the government needed to take decisive action against the menace and not just engage.
“Imani’s President, Mr Franklin Cudjoe, has expressed our sentiment that we need more action, not talk; he determines who represents Imani. I agree with him, we have said enough,” he wrote in a Facebook post on Thursday.
He used the occasion to reiterate his calls for a declaration of Galamsey areas as Security zones; forfeiture of Galamsey areas to the state; dismissal of DCEs and Regional Ministers engaged in Galamsey areas; demand for a deposit of GHS10 million for each license as capital; and demand for a Bond worth GH 10 Million for reclamation.
He has also been demanding a ban on the blind importation of all excavators while giving national security the sole mandate to import and allot them to those needing them; placing all existing excavators under national security supervision; repealing the LI granting mining access in forest reserves; and making Galamsey the core duty for all REGSECs and DISECs.
“If Galamsey is serious, let us treat it as if it is. We are NOT ALL RESPONSIBLE FOR DEALING WITH THIS!!! THE PRESIDENT AND HIS GOVERNMENT ARE!! We can only crusade, and we have been doing that!!”
