Communication Minister Announces Upcoming “Proper” SIM Registration

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, says a fresh SIM registration exercise will be conducted for all users across the country.
According to him, it is not a SIM re-registration exercise but a fresh registration exercise in July 2025.
“We will commence public sensitisation and education towards the impending SIM registration. Let’s be clear, I didn’t say a SIM re-registration. A proper SIM registration and we will also do a Central Equipment Identity Register we believe that we will roll out on 1 July this year,” he said at a presser on April 9.
The MP for Ningo Prampram Constituency noted that the process will be human-centred but technology-driven.
“There will be no long queues. Ghanaians will not have to leave their jobs to go and queue. The process will be human-centred but technology-driven.”
He explained that the exercise is critical to the country’s security.
“Ghana’s digital future is being built today with purpose, strategic partnerships and with the people at the centre.”
In October 2021, the immediate past government commenced a SIM re-registration exercise which lasted for over a year.
