Refund Money Collected From Students For WASSCE Practicals; GES to SHS Heads

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has instructed heads of Senior High and technical schools to refund any money collected from students for the practicals of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

In a statement, the Service stated that the government had released the full funding to cover the costs of the 2025 WASSCE practical examinations, including all required materials and resources.

As such, it noted that there was no need to take money from students.

“Management notices with concern that some Heads have engaged in the collection of monies from Candidates/Parents/Guardians for these same practicals.”

It therefore directed all heads involved to refund any monies collected from students or parents in respect of WASSCE practicals; ensure the refund process is properly documented, and official receipts are issued to acknowledge repayment; and notify their Regional Director once refunds have been completed.

It recognised that compliance with this directive will reduce the financial burden on students and parents and ensure that no learner is excluded from participating.

It warned that failure to comply will be considered a serious breach of official instructions and may attract administrative sanctions.
