AFCON 2023: Round Of 8 Fixtures

Eight teams are through to the quarter-finals stage of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cote d’Ivoire after intense, dramatic, ecstatic, upsetting and thrilling games since the weekend.

Nigeria, Angola, Cape Verde, South Africa, Mali, Guinea, DR Congo and Ivory Coast have booked their seats.

The round of eight games will begin on February 2 with a match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Palancas Negras of Angola.

It will be followed by a confrontation between DR Congo and Guinea.

On February  3 will be a confrontation between Mali and the hosts before Cape Verde face off against South Africa on in an attempt to book a semi-final slot.


Journey To Quarter-finals
Nigeria in an intense battle with rivals Cameroon piped the Central African country by 2-0 while Angola thrashed round of 16 first-timers Namibia by 3-0.

The spirited Blue Sharks kicked out the Lions of Chiguetti after successfully converting a late penalty with South Africa ending Morocco’s dream to get their second AFCON title after 1976 with a 2-0 scoreline in their favour.

Mali punished Burkina Faso 2-1 on Tuesday to keep their hope of winning their first title alive in the tournament.

Meanwhile, Guinea on Sunday showed Equatorial Guinea the way out with a sole goal while the match between Egypt and DR Congo was forced into penalties where the latter dominated.

Another intense fixture in the round of 16 was between Senegal and hosts Cote d’Ivoire where the latter eliminated their defending champions.
