MFA Denies Claims Of Easy Ghanaian Passport Access By Foreigners

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has condemned as “false and baseless”, claims that foreigners easily access Ghanaian passports.
In a statement, it noted that the requisite documents submitted for passport applications are first subjected to vigorous scrutiny.
In addition, it said that applicants also undergo in-person vetting, where additional information is obtained to substantiate information provided on the application form through interviews.
It therefore emphasised that the submission of these documents does not guarantee the automatic issuance of passports.
“The claims that foreigners have easy access to Ghanaian passports are false and baseless…The Ministry wishes to assure that it will not, under any circumstances, avail such a security document of the state to non-nationals. Our systems are robust, and we keep investing in modern technology and the training of our staff to advance our security protocols.”
It used the occasion to warn the public against the presentation of forged or fake documents for services.
It stated the act is unlawful and punishable by law under Sections 158, 159, 166 and 169 of the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (Act 29).
