Kotoko Deny Reluctance in Extending Justice Blay’s Contract

The Asante Kotoko Sporting Cub have rubbished reports that they are reluctant to extend the contract of midfielder Justice Blay.

The 31-year-old who has been battling injuries has had his contract extension smeared with speculations of uncertainties after it was reported that Management of the Porcupines has proposed just a six-month contract extension.

In a statement, the Reds said the allegations were frivolous and untrue.

It explained that talks about his contract extension began on Tuesday with a proposal issued on the same day.

“We wish to place on record that these stories making rounds have no basis and are borne of malice ostensibly aimed at causing disaffection to the club. For the records, the club presented a proposal to the player, which included the length of the contract renewal and financial consideration.

“It must be made clear that at no point was a 6-month contract proposed to the player. It comes to us as a surprise that a discussion between the player who intimated to us today, January 9, 2024, that he was going to get his “management” to conclude discussions with us would be in the media, when in fact, both the player and the club have not agreed on anything in principle other than the proposal given to the player, which frankly does not even include a 6-month contract extension.”

Blay first joined Kotoko on loan in the 2019/2020 season from Medeama during which spell he fell in favour with fans and subsequently made a permanent move to the Kumasi-based club in 2022 on a two-year deal.
