ECG Digitalising Customer Data

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced an ongoing process of digitalising its assets and information about customers.

The exercise is currently ongoing in the Ashanti and Greater Accra Regions.

In a notice on May 18, the ECG said it will have its team deployed to take relevant information from customers.

Required information includes customers’ ID and phone number, GPS code and meter details.

They will also tag the company’s transformers, poles and meters with unique QR codes.

Urging the public to cooperate with the team, the ECG advised customers to inspect the ID cards of the teams who visit their premises and call designated numbers for authentication when in doubt.

“ECG wishes to take this opportunity to request the cooperation of all customers and the general public in this very important exercise which will aid the digitalisation of our operation to the mutual benefit of our cherished customers and ECG,” the notice said.

This comes days after it rolled out its cashless policy which requires customers to pay their bills or buy electricity credit through the *226# shortcode or banks by taking a deposit slip from an ECG office.

Customers may also choose to make payments at ECG offices but through mobile money.
