Founder’s Day Restoration a Victory For Truth And Historical Justice- Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park Director
The Acting Executive Director of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, Dr. Collins Rawlings Nunyonameh, has stated that the restoration of the Founder’s Day on the Ghanaian holiday calendar is a victory for truth and historical justice.
In a statement, he commended President John Dramani Mahama for the decision, saying it reaffirms the indisputable legacy of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah as the true founder of Ghana.
“As in all cases, while we note that others may have contributed in various ways to Ghana’s political development, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah remains peerless in Ghana’s political history. His singular focus on ‘self-governance now’ galvanized a nation and inspired a continent to break free from colonial political rule.”
According to him, the government’s decision corrects historical distortions and assert Dr. Nkrumah’s status as the founder of Ghana.
Quoting former President Sekou Toure, he said, “Those who attempted to humiliate him [Dr. Nkrumah] only succeeded in glorifying him. Indeed, time can neither soil his works nor tarnish his great and proud image”
He further called on the Government, Parliament and the Constitutional Review Committee to take steps to entrench Founder’s Day in law, to safeguard it from future political revisionism and historical distortions.
