Suspected Organised Crime Syndicate Members Arrested
The police are holding twelve people suspected to be members of an organised crime syndicate operating in three regions across the country.
The syndicate is said to be involved in carjacking, robbery and murder incidents.
The twelve were arrested this month after surveillance was mounted to track their activity by a special police team between July 2022 and January 2023.
Items retrieved after the arrests included cars, foreign pistols, revolvers, ammunition and an amount of money.
The twelve suspects have been identified as Prince Opuni, Kwabena Kyei Barfor, Jeffery Dwomoh, Clifford Opoku, Samuel Adom, William Ansah, Bernard Adu Gyamfi, Anthony Tawiah, Andrew Kwame Owusu, Musah Sulley, Yaw Acheampong and Charles Lortherford.
They operated in the Greater Accra Region, Ashanti Region and Eastern Region.
According to a statement from the police, these suspects snatched cars at gunpoint and later sold them.
In one instance cited by the Service, suspect Jeffery Dwomoh allegedly shot and killed his victim during one of his operations at Brofoyedu near Ahenema Kokoben.
The Service said efforts are underway to arrest one other suspect believed to be behind double vehicle documentation for the syndicate.
It also said it has contacted some of the victims of the syndicate with efforts underway to identify the rest.
