Suspect Detained for Threatening Investigator with Gun

A suspect at the centre of a forgery case has been arrested and detained by the police after threatening an investigator with a gun.
A police statement issued in Saturday said the incident occured on February 3, 2026, when the 53-year-old identified as Seth Welbeck appeared before the Accra Circuit Court on a criminal summons.
“After court proceedings, while the suspect was being escorted to the court cells, he requested permission from the investigator to lock his vehicle.
“In the process, the suspect suddenly retrieved a Smith & Wesson SD9 VE pistol loaded with nine (9) rounds of 9mm ammunition from his vehicle and pointed it at the investigator, threatening him,” it recounted.
With the assistance of other court officials and witnesses, the investigator reportedly disarmed the suspect.
He is currently in Police custody assisting with investigations, and being prepared for arraignment.
The Accra Regional Police Command in it’s statement cautioned the general public to desist from any act of violence, threats, or possession of firearms and ammunition without lawful authority, as such actions pose a danger to lives and property.
Additionally, it urged the public to strictly comply with lawful court processes and Police procedures at all times, warning that any attempt to obstruct justice, intimidate public officers, or resort to violence will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law.
