Suriname Speaker Opens Up to Asantehene About His 2019 Visit to Ghana

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Suriname, The Hon. Dr Ir. Michael A.S. Adhin, held a frank conversation with the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, about his maiden visit to Ghana and particularly the Asante Kingdom in 2019.

Opening up about his indelible experience during an engagement at Onafhankelijkheidsplein 10 on November 27, 2025, he said the country gave him a sense that he “belonged”.

According to him, the visit was not a mere diplomatic activity.

“It was not about diplomacy for me. It was spiritual because the places I went and saw… When you get somewhere, and you directly feel a sense of belonging.”

He expressed his honour to visit at the Asantehene’s invitation and was similarly elated about His Majesty’s acceptance of Suriname’s invitation to join their 50th Independence Anniversary celebration.

“It was an honour to be there, and it is an honour for us that you have come here.”

The engagement ended with the exchange of gifts.

This was one of the five courtesy visits of the King on Wednesday.
