Super Clash: Kotoko Needs to Make Changes, Work Hard to Beat Hearts of Oak-Prince Owusu

Asante Kotoko, the Ghana Premier League powerhouse, announced on Monday evening that Prince Yaw Owusu had been appointed temporary head coach following Abdul Karim Zito’s departure.

The 2025 MTN FA Cup champions announced a new technical direction in a post on their official X account.

The statement was captioned, “Coach Prince Yaw Owusu is to temporarily take charge of the technical team, assisted by Mohammed Hamza Obeng.”

On Tuesday morning, the squad engaged in a training session under the supervision of Coach Prince Yaw Acheampong. The Chairman of the IMC, Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awua formally introduced the new technical team to the players at Adako Jachie.

Coach Prince Yaw Acheampong’s role as the interim coach begins in the Ghana Premier League Week 22 against Accra Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The caretaker coach, Yaw Acheampong, spoke to Asante Kotoko’s media ahead of the Super Clash, stating that they are supposed to make amendments against Accra Hearts of Oak, citing the results in the FA Cup Round of 16.

Yaw Acheampong stated, “I think what I will say is that we are ready, we’ve started training today to face Hearts of Oak. One thing I will bring back is that the last game we played, we didn’t have our way. Things did go well for us; we have to make amendments, and we are ready to work very hard this week so that we can close the gap to get a win from Hearts of Oak.”

Kumasi Asante Kotoko, under the authorities and directives of Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awua, has not lost in the Ghana Premier League to Accra Hearts of Oak in the last two seasons; the last time they lost in the Super Clash was on March 5, 2023.
