Member of Parliament for Suame Constituency and Majority Leader of Parliament, Hon. Osei kyei Mensah Bonsu has confirmed to the news that his people hooted and pelted sachet water at him yesterday, Monday 18th July 2022, when he went to the constituency to inspect the road construction project at Suame highway.
However, the MP clarified that it was not true that some people assailed him with stones as some media outlets seem to be reporting.
According to the Legislator, he had witnessed the Suame-Magazine Artisans demonstrating over poor roads, especially the Suame highway that was abandoned at some point and they threatened to rejuvenate the act if it does not yield positive results.
Speaking on Opemsuo Radio with Agudey, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister said, the Constructor has been made to re-attend to the project and he had come to inspect it and also to talk to his residents.
Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu stated that some agitated people came to the scene unexpectedly shouting and hooting at him and his entourage insisting that they are not ready to sit for further engagements and in their decision to leave the scene, they started assaulting them with sachet water. The Suame Highway construction project has been left halfway for barely a year and the outcome has negatively affected the residents, and road users and impeded the business of Artisans along the road and in the area as a whole.
This spiked the agitated residents to stage a demonstration against the government, especially the Member of Parliament for the Suame Constituency, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu to the extent of barricading the road and restricting movement to traffic.
Speaking on Opemsuo Radio with Agudey, the MP instigated that the shortage of bitumen for the asphalt overlay led to the break in the project but not that it was totally abandoned.
The contractor promised of obtaining the product from Ivory Cost and consequently landed in town last Friday necessitating his return to the site to see the progress of the project, for this reason, the road was left hallway, he said.
