Students, Staff Of Bipoa D/A Get Free Dental Care
In all, 480 students and staff members of Bipoa D/A school received free dental services, courtesy of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the King of the Asante Kingdom.
This was during a stop by the Otumfuo-Smile Mobile Dental Outreach at Agona Bipoa on Tuesday, June 6, 2023.
The students gathered and received oral hygiene education from Mrs Lydia Akoto, one of the dentists on the team. They were educated on proper teeth care, safer teeth brushing techniques, and many others.
After screening 480 students and staff members, 11 underwent tooth extractions, while 80 received scaling and polishing procedures.
Those who had a tooth or more extracted were also given instructions and medication to aid their healing and suppress the pain.
All the students were also given high-quality toothbrushes.
Students and the headmaster of the school expressed appreciation to the King of the Asante Kingdom for instituting such an initiative.
“We are grateful to Otumfuo Foundation and Smile For Everyone Foundation. It’s important because while I was in school, my parents had to bear the cost of my dental sessions. We were happy today when we received notice that you were coming, we were happy and we wish for more,” the headmaster said.
After undergoing scaling and polishing, Alhassan Abdul, a student, said his mouth felt clean.
Another student who said it was her first time accessing dental care said she was very excited at receiving it for free.
“I was very happy when I heard I was going to access dental care because I had never visited a dentist. It’s free as well,” Erica Frimpongmaa Gyasi said.
Mr Kwesi Oduro Korankye who is the Otumfuo Foundation’s Project Officer in charge of Health used the occasion to express his profound appreciation to Women World Health for sponsoring the project with toothbrushes.
He also appealed for more sponsors to expand the project’s reach.
