Stop Chasing Great Oath ‘Contracts’- Otumfuo Warns Courtiers
The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has issued a stern warning to courtiers who go about seeking and taking Great Oath ‘contracts’ from parties to disputes.
At a Kumasi Traditional Council meeting on December 11, 2025, he denounced the action.
From His Majesty’s observations, people planning to invoke the Great Oath purposely come to the Manhyia Palace to contract the services of courtiers to be witnesses to the act.
“The courtiers hide and once the oath is invoked, they demand slaughter and act as witness.”
Otumfuo also identified some Divisions as complicit in such incidents.
This, Otumfuo noted, was sponsoring the indiscriminate invocation of his sacred oath in recent times.
“Be warned. Don’t compel me to destool some of you from next year. I can’t build peace for some of you to demolish it. Desist from these things to avert my wrath. Courtiers must similarly stop going after Great Oath ‘contracts’.”
