Star Oil Threatens to Sue Content Creator Goshers

Star Oil has announced plans to sue traveller and content creator Goshers for “baseless and defamatory” allegations against the brand.

The vlogger took to his Facebook page on Wednesday morning to complain about how he felt “cheated” by the Star Oil fuel pump at Anyinase near Elubo.

In the said video, he claimed that he stopped at the pump to fill his motorbike, which already contained some fuel and expected to spend about GHS 150 to fill it; however, he ended up paying GHS 190.

Probe
Reacting to the said video, Star Oil said it set out to ascertain the veracity of the claims, contacting the “frequent customer”.

It first reviewed a CCTV video footage of his transaction at the Anyinase station and went further to conduct a 10-Litre Can Test – A remote can test via video call with the complainant.

“The test was performed three times, with results of 10.02 L, 10.03 L and 10.04 L, confirming that the dispenser is accurately calibrated.”

In addition, it said a Flow Rate Verification was conducted.

“We cross-checked the dispensing time against the dispenser’s flow rate for a GHS 190 purchase, which further confirmed that the correct quantity of fuel was delivered.”

The company said all evidence of its findings was shared with “Goshers” via WhatsApp and phone calls.

Increment
Star Oil, therefore, attributed the situation to the recent price adjustment from GHS 11.45 per litre to GHS 12.65 per litre.

It said the adjustment meant that the same amount of money now purchases less fuel than before.

Retraction Failure
The vlogger after this, reportedly agreed to retract his allegations and delete the video.

“More than 12 hours have passed without him honouring that commitment,” it observed.

“Star Oil takes its reputation very seriously. We will therefore take the necessary legal steps to protect our brand from such baseless and defamatory allegations, which appear to have been made solely for sensationalism and social media attention.”

It also affirmed its commitment to fairness, transparency, and customer trust and directed its customers to request the 10-litre can test at its stations for instant assurance whenever in doubt.

Reacting to the threat, Gosher wrote on Facebook, “All the best.”
